Please join the Technical Services SIG on Thursday at 3pm for a series of Lightning Talks.

This year’s lineup will include:

EzProxy Config Manager an Open Source Application
Juan Denzer (SUNY Oswego)

The Discovery Services Librarian at SUNY Oswego enlisted the help of two Computer Science students to develop an Open Source application to manage the EzProxy Configuration file. The goal of the application is to help reduce the clutter by organizing the stanzas and options in the file using an easy to use interface. Some key features will include: searching, commenting, views, sorting.

Weighted Allocation Formula

April Davies (SUNY Cobleskill)

April will briefly discuss the library’s new weighted allocation formula for acquisitions, focusing on how the categories were chosen and the data gathered.

One Library’s Experience with Kanopy PDA and Meditated Licensing

Marianne Foley (Buffalo State)

In the fall of 2016, E. H. Butler Library at SUNY Buffalo State began a PDA program to stream Kanopy videos. Usage began slowly, then really picked up. Between June and December 2017, we spent $10,000. After an additional $5,000 was exhausted during Spring 2018, we changed from PDA to mediated licensing. The session will summarize our experience and offer suggestions to other librarians who are considering Kanopy for their library.

SUNYLA 2018: Throw Open Our Doors: Academic Librarians Open to New Experiences, Opinions, and Viewpoints

There has been a lot of talk about “open” lately — open educational resources, open pedagogy, open access, etc. At the SUNYLA 2018 Annual Conference, we will delve into the concept of openness through the more general terms of openly welcoming new ideas, campus partners, materials, and strategies into our libraries. Please join us at Finger Lakes Community College on June 13-15, 2018, as we explore how our academic libraries are pushing the boundaries beyond books and databases and opening new territory both within and beyond our walls.

*Member Rate: You must be a current (2017-2018) member of SUNYLA in order to receive the member rate for registration. This means that if you are not currently a member, you must join SUNYLA and wait for your membership to be processed before registering for the conference at the member rate. To receive the member discount, you must enter the appropriate code in the Member Discount field on the registration form. You can obtain the code by filling out the form at http://membership.sunyla.org/update_search.php. The code will be emailed to you if your membership is current. Again, it is imperative that your membership renewal is completely processed before you register for the conference.

*Presenters: You will have a coupon code emailed to you once registration is open. Presenters receive a reduced rate for conference attendance. This equates to:

  • $25 for session presenters attending the entire conference
  • $15 for session presenters attending one day
  • $10 for poster session presenters attending the entire conference
  • $6 for poster session presenters attending one day.
